July Council Meeting Summary and Meeting Notes

The PSMC Governing Council met on Thursday, July 10th, 2014- the meeting notes, where you can find more details about what was discussed at our meeting, are accessible here: pinJuly 10th Council Meeting Notes

Here is a short summary of the meeting:

  • Doug McCanne, who leads our long running Prison Dharma program, came to talk to the Council about the program to help bring them up to speed on its state, as well as look into integrating its funding and volunteering more with the center. The program has been ongoing for 10 years, though not as an extension of the Shambhala Center until a few years ago. The program is somewhat of a hidden gem within our community, doing great service. Here is the link to its page on our website, here is a recent blog post about the program, and here you can find an article recently written in the Oregonian about a course the program gave for Prison Guards with Acharya Fleet Maull.
  • The council will be having a retreat in August, and discussions were had over the topics of that retreat, including strategic long-term planning for the center, as well as a peer review process for the Council.
  • Some updates were discussed on the financial status of the center, including an update on membership and program revenue, as well as a discussion on bringing up budgets for the various spheres of the center for 2015.
