Appointment of Rusung Dan Rubin

IMG_3133The Portland Governing Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Rubin as our new Rusung. The Rusung is the head of the local Dorje Kasung regiment, who manifest the ‘protector principle’ in our local community- practicing their path of service at community events including our Nyida Days as well as when visiting senior teachers (Acharyas) are in Portland. Rusung Rubin’s appointment was made by Jay Crappella, the regional commander of the Dorje Kasung. Rusung Rubin took his oath with Dr. Michael Gaynor when he was in Portland for the ‘Path of Protection’ program, and took it again in front of the community on Harvest of Peace. Besides organizing our local Kasung squad, Dan will serve on the Governing Council.

Rusung Dan Rubin is a clinical psychologist in private practice and professor of psychology at Maitripa College. He is a father of young twins, a science fiction nerd, and makes a kick ass breakfast burrito. He has practiced the dharma for 20 years, and was inspired to join Shambhala in 2002 after learning of the Dorje Kasung and its skillful means of attaining “victory over war.” If you are interested in peace, healing, or bringing “victory over war” to your everyday life, feel free to talk to Rusung Rubin about the Dorje Kasung, and he’d be delighted to geek out with you.
