Young Meditators

Group currently on hiatus.

The Portland Young Meditators Group is a meditation, mindfulness and social group for those who identify in some way as “young” – most of our members are in their 20s and 30s, but all are welcome. The idea of focusing on age is not meant to be exclusionary, but rather to promote community, connection and inspiration among an age group that is often in the minority at many meditation centers.

Until the Portland Shambhala Center reopens in a new physical space, we meet outside each Thursday at 7pm (weather permitting) or online via Zoom (temporarily on hold), where we practice sitting meditation together, and then engage in Social Meditation, a practice of taking mindfulness off the cushion and into our speech and listening. When circumstances permit, we also have meetings regularly outside of this – potlucks, hikes, museum outings, etc.

Those who are new to meditation are warmly encouraged to attend.  Meditation instruction is offered at the beginning of the session for those who would like it.
