The Friday evening intro talk is included in registration for the weekend program.

This unique workshop based on Acharya Susan Chapman's book The Five Keys to Mindful Communication will explore the principles of Contemplative Psychology, and includes Mudra Space Awareness, a radical set of body-mind meditations designed by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Using simple methods and metaphors, participants learn to identify toxic conversation patterns and transform fear-based reactions into opportunities for making friends with ourselves -- as well as each other. The workshop includes short talks, small group dialogues, Mudra Space Awareness exercises and a mindfulness meditation.

Due to Acharya Chapman's teaching schedule, she will be unable to attend. To help spread her material, she has empowered Greg Heffron to teach this unique approach. Greg has been teaching with Susan since 2009, and finds her Mindful Communication material to be both practical and vast, built from the profundity of the Buddhist teachings (Five Buddha Families, etc), but usable immediately to those with no training (or even interest) in Buddhism per se.

NOTE: The Friday talk is available as it's own short event: http://portland.shambhala.org/program_details.php?id=125634&cid=214
