This class presents the essence of the “Three Jewels”, in which all Buddhists take refuge - the Buddha as our example, the Dharma as the path, and the Sangha as the community of fellow practitioners -- -- and explores the meaning of making this commitment to follow the Buddhist Path. Appropriate for both those aspiring to take the refuge vow, as well as those curious and interested but not yet ready to take this formal step.
This class is the recommended preparation for those who wish to take the formal Refuge Vow that will be offered November 11, 1012 with Acharya Jenny Warwick.
Jay Stewart took refuge in 1974, becoming a student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Her interest has been, and remains, how meditation works in ordinary life. Former Director of the Sonoma Shambhala Center, she is currently a meditation instructor and regular teacher at the Portland Shambhala Center as well as serving as Head Dekyong. Jay regularly offers her facilitation skills for various community processes. She is also a visual artist.
Lesa Ricci began meditating in 1987 as a Naropa University student and has been a devoted student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche since 1992. She is a meditation Instructor and acting Practice & Education Director for the Portland Shambhala Center. She brings a life-long ethic of service; leadership experience from a diversity of careers in various mission driven non-profits; and strong commitment to fulfilling vision of Shambhala to her current position as Portland Shambhala Center Director. She is an avid yoga practitioner.
