“Generosity is the virtue that produces peace.”

~  the Sutra of the Recollection of the Three Jewels

Pricing Policy

Many of our programs are free but for some we charge tuition. The Portland Shambhala Center is a non-profit organization supported entirely by generosity. It is kept afloat by the dues and donations of members, donors, program participants, as well as the energy of its many volunteers. We set our program fees at the level needed to sustain our Center. We are committed to keeping our programs accessible to everyone, regardless of financial constraints. At the same time, we want to grow our community and what we are able to offer to the world.  We encourage all program participants to offer the most generous amount according to their situation. We use tiered pricing for most programs to both encourage generosity and help support a variety of financial circumstances.

  • Patron Tuition: This tuition level invites generosity from those who are able to offer more, allowing us to offer programs to all.
  • Supporting Tuition: This tuition level covers our Shambhala Center’s actual operating costs.
  • My Offering Tuition: This option allows you to offer what works for your situation, in keeping with our commitment to offer meditation practice and programs regardless of ability to pay. Please consider the value of the program and practice generosity at the level appropriate to your circumstances.
  • Generosity Policy Tuition: See below.

Generosity Policy

We invite everyone to engage with the practice of generosity by asking, “How much am I able to give?”  Some times we can be more generous than other times. Sometimes we can stretch and sometimes we cannot. By offering your generosity in whatever measure you can at this time, you join us in offering the Shambhala teachings to the world.

Many of our programs have a My Offering payment option where you can offer an amount that works for you. If a program does not have this payment option and you’d like to take advantage of our Generosity Policy, contact our program registrar and make arrangements in advance: [email protected] or 503-278-5816; we cannot arrange Generosity Policy amounts at check-in.

Discounts

Discounts cannot be combined with our generosity policy.

  • Repeat Discount: 50% of the listed tuition when attending a program previously completed.

Cancellation Policy

For most programs, full payment refunds are offered if we receive your cancellation no later than 24 hrs prior to the program start time. There will be no refunds after this time but you are welcome to transfer your tuition to a future program. To cancel your registration, contact the registrar.
