Fall Fundraiser Update — We have accomplished our 2016 goal, but we still have needs and new challenges for 2017!

sunflower-cropThrough contributions from many of you, our members and friends, including one large gift from an anonymous donor, we have raised over $7,000 in one-time donations! Thank you so much to everyone who supported our community in this way.

We also set a goal for an overall monthly membership increase from dues of $500 a month. We received an increase of $240 each month from dues donations. However this was offset by some attrition in members dues, giving us a net dues increase of $150 a month — $350 short of our goal for sustaining income for the Center.

Continuing and increased support from you, our friends and members, is essential for both our ongoing stability as well as meeting the challenges relocating to a new space will bring. Your generosity is key for our continued growth and success as a community.

You can still offer support in a variety of ways:

  • Give a one time tax-deductible donation through this link.
  • Become a Member — there are brochures at the Center and also through this link.
  • If you’re already a Member increase the amount you give monthly. All amounts are appreciated. Please contact our Dues Manager Bruce Dodds at [email protected]
  • You can contribute to the Center anytime you shop through Amazon.  Just visit smile.amazon.com and enter Shambhala Meditation Center of Portland as the nonprofit you’d like to support.
  • We also need gifts of time and energy.  Volunteering is a wonderful way to connect while supporting the wellbeing of our Center. We are especially seeking energetic action in the areas that support our income — programming, communications and publicity, fundraising and development, and membership.  Contact Volunteer Coordinator Abbey Pleviak [email protected] if you’d like to volunteer for a position, or short-term projects.

Your support makes it possible for us to offer all our meditation offerings and wonderful groups — the Young Meditators Group, the Queer Dharma Group, the Aging Group, and the new Climate Practice and Action Group.  We also have an incredible dharma program in the Oregon State Penitentiary serving both inmates and staff.  And every year, we give out scholarships for people to attend programs at land centers and teacher training programs.

We so appreciate your dedication to the Shambhala Vision of creating a wakeful and kind society for everyone!  Thank you again for everything you do for this Vision. We look forward to seeing you at the Center soon.

with warm regards,

Lisa & Abbey
