The Relocation Team is moving ahead with crucial steps to purchasing a new center for our community!

Some of the action items we’re working on….

1) Identifying and retaining the services of a Realtor who has experience in commercial properties.

2) Identifying a bank to work with us on a mortgage. We are currently exploring a relationship with Beneficial State Bank (formerly Albina Community Bank, a local financial organization).

3) Working with the City of Portland to obtain more information regarding zoning regulations for properties that could be used for community gatherings, such as the Shambhala Center.

4) Staying in communication with Shambhala International regarding best practices for securing a new space.

Following the lead of one of our sangha members, a small group visited a potential new home at 8805 NE Glisan on Friday, March 30. The space is a surplus facility owned by a much larger church next door. An initial walk-through elicited a positive response from the members who participated, however some additional research done by the Relocation Team into deferred maintenance, permits, and zoning regulations has raised some concerns. The team has started doing “due diligence” on this space, and will keep the community updated on what they discover along the way.

We continue to be grateful for your support and encouragement as we work through the details of this complicated process! Look for a community event in the next 1-2 months to discuss what we’ve learned, also to prepare for a fundraising drive for our future home! Please contact Mark Douglass at [email protected] if you have questions or concerns.
