Gathering leaders from Portland Sanghas

Last week Mark Douglass and Jane Perlstein invited leaders of several Buddhist sanghas in Portland for a pot luck dinner and conversation about care and conduct questions that all of us are facing. Misconduct and ideas for how to deal with it is a topic that’s on the minds of many people who are responsible for the support of meditation communities in Portland. Here’s their report:

I feel a lot of voices are not being heard. This seems to be a Top Down approach to making policies that will affect everyone in our community. I feel collaboration needs to include everyone in our community. Everyone would include the marginalized. Who are the marginalized in our community? That is something I feel leadership needs to start to explore.
