    Kitchen Sink Dharma:
    Be Grateful to Everyone
    A talk by David Parker

Be Grateful to Everyone is one of 59 mind training slogans in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.  These are pithy, earthy instructions to help us realize our aspiration to abandon our habits of putting ourselves first and instead seek happiness for others. It’s easy and helpful, though often forgotten, to feel grateful to those who have nurtured and helped us, but why should we be encouraged to be grateful to everyone, including those who annoy, frustrate, or insult us?

David Parker started meditating with the Boston Shambhala Center in 1988, and has been with Portland Shambhala since 1994.  He is currently serving as Meditation Instructor Coordinator on our Practice and Education Committee.  He is retired from biomedical research, and attempting to shift from doing to being.
