Smile at Fear: Warriorship in the Three Yanas
with Acharya Gaylon Ferguson
"When you are frightened by something, you have to relate with fear, explore why you are frightened, and develop some sense of conviction...You can be free from fear, if you realize that fear is not the ogre. You can step on fear, and therefore you can attain what is known as fearlessness. But that requires that, when you see fear, you smile." Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche
Open to All- Registration by 3/12 highly encouraged
It is also possible to just attend the Friday Night Talk of the weekend.
We welcome Acharya Gaylon Ferguson back to Portland for this very special program!
Acharya Ferguson will show the intersection of the Shambhala teachings on fearlessness and warriorship with traditional Buddhist practices from each of the three yanas: Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana.*
We’ll explore the perspectives of each yana—the Narrow Path, the Open Way, and the Tantric path—as they are practiced within Shambhala. Practitioners of all levels will expand their understanding of these fundamental aspects of the Buddhist path through practices such as Tonglen (compassion practice) and Shambhala Meditation, and teachings related to the Heart Sutra and the Sadhana of Mahamudra.
Acharya Ferguson will draw on a seminar originally presented by the Dorje Dradul, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, at Shambhala Mountain Center.
* Yana means vehicle, a method of spiritual practice in Buddhism, and refers to the three major bodies of teachings given by the Buddha.
