Shambalians: This is our time

The cracking apart of the Shambhala community over the last two years has been extremely painful.  It has also been a vivid demonstration of the dynamics of samsara, as harmful actions generate harmful responses, and we feel engulfed by rippling waves of disappointment, hurt, grief, anger, embarrassment and self-righteousness.  We feel drawn towards a storyline which implies that we should have been able to avoid all of this suffering and confusion, if only we (or they) had done ......

However, the wisdom traditions that we hold in Shambhala tell us something quite different. Suffering is not avoidable:  it comes with the territory of being human. Fully experiencing our own suffering without shame or blame opens our hearts to the suffering of others. Motivated by compassion, we can summon the bravery, clarity and strength to know how to move forward in ways that generate the most benefit.

The teachings held in Shambhala are a true gift, and at the same time, Shambhala is ours.  We are the people we have been waiting for, as the saying goes – no-one is coming to save us.  We have exactly the map and the tools that all humans need to navigate the present Dark Age. Let us summon the energy to take up this challenge.
