Jay Stewart works in a Group Art Show and Benefit

Everyone is invited to the Third Annual Re/Max Equity Group Art Show and Benefit: Sunday November 3rd, from 1 to 5 PM at the Re/Max Equity Group office, 237 N Broadway, Portland.  Please feel free to invite your friends too.  Jay will be there and would love to see you!

A four-painting series of her recent work, called Icons-Icans, are part of this juried group show.  A portion of the sales benefit the Re/Max Equity Foundation, which supports a wide variety of community non-profits focusing mainly on children, youth and families.

The show will remain up from Sunday Nov. 3rd until Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014.  You can visit the offices to see the show anytime during regular business hours.

Artist Statement:

Thrown away, run-over soda cans—street garbage? Or possibilities for exploring renewed urban life in paintings?  Each of the four collaged paintings in the Icons/Icans series presents a fresh perspective.  This starts with garbage as treasure. Next the fertile chaos of unsettling changes that become imaginative opportunities.  Following that, the work moves into creative darkness, then emerges, at last, with a new vision of life’s promises.

I begin uncertainly, not knowing where I’ll end up—a leap into space. Starting by positioning the can piece and working intuitively, I slowly build images and colors.  As I layer the paint and materials, stand back and look, then enter again, I integrate abstract with figurative elements—hints of sky, earth, fire, water and animal life.

Jay will also have another series up, this time small works at the annual Small Works 13 show at Guardino Gallery in December.
