2023 – PSMC Year of Water Rabbit I Ching Reading

File:Iching-hexagram-10.svg - Wikimedia CommonsAt this year’s Shambhala Day Celebration on February 21st, 2023, we threw the I Ching for the Year of the Water Rabbit for our community. Gardner Murphy provides the following comments on hexagram #10 LU Correct Conduct, or Walking Your Path:

The image of the trigram of Heaven over the trigram Lake are in their correct positions but of such clashing natures that disharmony could develop.  There are no changing lines so the reading is stable.

“Society is fraught with imbalances that can give rise to enmity. Accordingly, LU advises that we take the time to determine where our advantages lie and how we may best progress through life without treading on each others’ toes. In fact, LU goes so far as to suggest that a truly wise individual could walk on the tail of the tiger without causing it to bite.”

“Pleasant manners win over even bad-tempered people. If you do not let their unpleasantness irritate or upset you, your own pleasant manners will have a positive and calming effect on them.”

“If you take every step with care, a successful journey is ensured.”

Tom McCann, member of the Minneapolis Shambhala Center and a friend of our Portland Center, sent us some artwork to commemorate the occasion of the new year. The circle of rabbits was taken from a garden ornament using rubbing wax. Beneath that is the Chinese character for “rabbit,” placed using Sumi ink. Seals were imprinted using traditional seal ink. The water-effect on the rice paper was given using Suminagashi (floating ink).
